Detailed Solution

James Rennel produced the first map of India under the British. The image of Brahmans presenting the Shastras to Britannia was featured on the front of James Rennel's map. Robert Clive commissioned Rennel to create a map of Hindustan in 1782. James Rennel was a fervent proponent of India's subjection by the British. Therefore, he saw the creation of maps as being crucial to Britain's rule over India. The Indians were shown in the front piece happily handing their old writings to Britain as if they were asking Britain to defend Indian culture. This demonstrated the British Empire's dominance.
