Reactionaries were overthrown by liberal revolutionaries, who established a constitutional monarchy governed by Louis Philippe as the head. 'When France sneezes, the rest of Europe catches a cold,' Metternich commented. The July Revolution sparked an insurgency in Brussels, resulting in Belgium seceding from the United Kingdom of the Netherlands.
