Detailed Solution

The Bengal Gazette was started by James Augustus Hickey
The Original Calcutta General Advertiser was another name for Hicky's Bengal Gazette. The paper was written, edited, and published by Hicky. Hicky used the paper, which was primarily in tabloid format, to make fun of different East India Company executives with whom he had personal issues. He charged the East India Company with corruption and inefficiency. He also singled out Warren Hastings, the governor-general, and accused him of poor leadership. The Bengal Gazette stopped its publication on March 23, 1782.
