Stalin started the collectivisation program in Russia.
The Russian collectivisation initiative only gradually boosted grain production. Stalin implemented collectivisation in the farm program due to severe shortages of grains in the early 1920s and outmoded production methods. Peasants were coerced into working together on collective farms known as "Kolkhoz" as part of this program. Farmers and peasants who rebelled and disobeyed orders to carry out collectivisation programs were harshly punished, and many of them were even deported and exiled from the nation. The peasants were also permitted to engage in independent farming, but the government treated them insensitively.
