Detailed Solution

The Janata Party used the slogan "Save Democracy" in the general elections of 1977 in India. It did so in order to undo the excesses perpetrated under the state of Emergency and to restore civil freedoms. The Janata Party was a coalition of political groups that opposed the national Emergency imposed during the Prime Ministership of Indira Gandhi and formed primarily to create a front against the Congress party in the 1977 general elections. It was founded by Jayprakash Narayan, a towering personality who broke away from the Congress party due to the corruption and misgovernance executed by the party. Then, by winning the 1977 general election, the Janata Party made history, and its leader, Morarji Desai, became the country's first non-Congress Prime Minister.
