Burhan ul Mulk Saadat Khan was appointed as the Subedar of Awadh in 1722 by the then Mughal emperor.
This was a significant development as Saadat Khan captured the power in Awadh as the king and separated it from the influence of the Mughal emperor. As part of his reforms, he tried to reduce the number of jagirdars who the Mughals appointed. The intention behind reducing the number of jagirdars was to reduce the influence of the Mughals on Awadh. However, he maintained a strict account of Jagirdar to prevent cheating and inappropriate collection of revenues from all the districts.
