Jainism was founded by Mahavira. He was born in 540 BC in the Bihar village of Kundagrama, near Vaishali. His father's name was Siddhartha, and his mother's name was Trishala. He got married to Yashoda. His father was the Janatrika clan's chief, while his mother was a Lichchhavi princess. After his parents died when he was nearly 30, he discarded materialistic life and kingship and explored the forests in search of the ultimate truth of existence.
