Detailed Solution

Hjalmar Schacht was a German economist.
Hjalmar Schacht was the Minister of Economics and General Plenipotentiary for the War Economy until 1937 and the Reichsbank President until 1939. He opposed Hitler's rearmament policy as it violated the Treaty of Versailles and, according to him, disrupted the German economy. Due to this, Hitler wasn't pleased, and hence Schacht remained minister without a portfolio until 1943. After an assassination attempt on Hitler in 1944, Schacht was sent to a concentration camp for his contact with conservative resistance members. He was freed in 1945 from the camps and later tried under the Nuremberg trials, but he was acquitted under appeal.
