James Mill was a historian from Scotland. He was a notable spokesperson of philosophical radicalism, also known as Utilitarianism, a school of thought that emphasised the importance of a scientific basis for philosophy and an idealist approach to politics and economics. However, James Mill soon became a teacher and began to study history and philosophy. Then he went to London and began writing his book, British Indian History. He took part in the conference that resulted in the establishment of London University.
