Detailed Solution

Martin Luther was a social reformer. German philosopher and reformer Martin Luther is credited with starting the Protestant Reformation Movement in the 16th century. Luther was vehemently opposed to the custom of engaging in "indulgences" or donating to the church in order to atone for sins. As the printing press became more prevalent, his writings were extensively read. Many Protestant Christian sects can be traced back to Luther's teachings. His words and deeds divided Western Christendom into Roman Catholicism and the new Protestant faiths, primarily Lutheranism, Calvinism, Anglicanism, the Anabaptists, and the anti-Trinitarians.
