Dalits were organised into the Depressed Classes Association. It was in 1930 that Dr B.R. Ambedkar formed the Dalit Depressed Classes Association. He was a pivotal figure in the betterment of the oppressed classes. The best example is when he went to the Second Round Table Conference and argued with Mahatma Gandhi about the desire for a distinct Dalit electorate.Dalits were awarded reservations in provincial and federal legislative bodies as a result of Ambedkar's initiatives. Throughout his life, he strived to improve the situation of Dalits.
