Detailed Solution

Birjis Qadr was proclaimed the new Nawab of Lucknow during the revolt of 1857.
The revolt began with sepoy mutiny spread across regions such as Lucknow, Jhansi, Bihar, Delhi, etc. The capital of Awadh was Lucknow. Birjis Qadr, son of former Nawab Wajid Ali  Shah, was declared the new Nawab. In Awadh, the movement spread like wildfire. The people were convinced to side with the rebels and oppose British rule. It was declared that British rule had collapsed. The rebels outnumbered the British forces. Begum Hazrat Mahal, the mother of Qadr, was important in organising people against the colonialists. The Britishers also declared that the revolt took the shape of a popular rebellion in Awadh and led to endless fighting.
