Detailed Solution

Victor Emmanuel II was proclaimed king of united Italy in 1861
The unification of Italy took place between 1859 to 1870. Before unification, Italy was scattered over several dynastic states. Italy was divided into seven states; only one was ruled by an Italian princely house in Sardinia-Piedmont. The northern, central, and southern regions were under the domination of other kingdoms. Sardinia-Piedmont, with the alliance of France, defeated Austrian forces. Later they captured other parts too. As a result, Italy became a united nation under the rule of Victor Emmanuel II.
