Detailed Solution

Bahadur Shah Zafar was proclaimed the emperor of India at the time of revolt of 1857. The rebels marched to Delhi and proclaimed the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar as their leader. They thought that making Bahadur Shah Zafar as the leader of the revolt would unite all the people against the British. Initially, it threatened the presence of the British in India but the revolt did not oust the British from India.
