Detailed Solution

Victor Emmanuel II was made the King of United Italy in 1861. Victor Emmanuel II, during the tumultuous phase of nationalism along the whole country, tried to unify Italy. Moreover, for that reason, he received support from Giuseppe Garibaldi in 1854. Before the unification of Italy, the nation was divided into seven kingdoms. But then, the only territories which were under the control of Victor Emmanuel II were Sardinia and Piedmont.
