Robert Owen was an English manufacturer.
The "Father of British Socialism" was an English manufacturer named Robert Owen. Due to his utopian policies and ideas about a worker's collective, which were revolutionary and helped define socialism, this title was quite appropriately given. He intended to establish worker cooperatives to advance their interests and voice their complaints. Owen supported fair living conditions for all and believed in the solidarity of the workforce. In 1825, he oversaw an ambitious effort to establish a sizable worker cooperative in Indiana, USA. For this, he bought a sizable tract of land and named it "New Harmony."
