Detailed Solution

Nana Saheb was the adopted son of Peshwa Bajirao II. When Peshwa Baji Rao II passed away, Nana Saheb asked that he be given his father's pension. However, the East India Company ignored these requests since it was sure of its strength and military might. During the Revolt of 1857, Nana Saheb amassed military forces and drove out the British garrison from Kanpur, and he referred to himself as Peshwa. He declared himself as the emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar's governor.
