The brother-in-law of Harshavardhana was the ruler of Kannauj, who was married to the sister of Harshavardhana, known as Rajashree. From the biography of Harshavardhana, it was known that the ruler of Kannauj, the brother-in-law of Harshavardhana, was killed by the ruler of Bengal. Harshavardhana wanted to take revenge against the ruler of Bengal. Hence he took over the kingdom of Kannauj and waged war against the ruler of Bengal by leading an army toward the Bengal region. In the end, Harshvardhan conquered the Bengal region along with Magadha; hence, he succeeded in the battles against the rulers of the East.
