Detailed Solution

Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom was mainly caused by Mughal Emperor Jahangir. Jahangir felt threatened by the growing popularity of the Guru and the spread of Sikhism. He feared that Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s teachings might weaken his rule and challenge Islamic authority. The Guru’s refusal to give up his faith angered the emperor even more.

Some courtiers and a man named Chandu Shah also played a key role in turning Jahangir against the Guru. They spread false rumors and created doubt in the emperor’s mind. The final trigger was the belief that Guru Arjan Dev Ji supported Jahangir’s rebel son, Khusrau.

As a result, Jahangir ordered the arrest and torture of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, leading to his martyrdom.
