The chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly of India was Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. This is also why Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is known as the “Father of the Indian Constitution.” However, there were other members on the drafting committee too. On August 29, 1947, the Constitution Assembly established a Drafting Committee, chaired by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, to prepare a draft constitution for India. The Indian Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949, and went into effect on January 26, 1950.
