Detailed Solution

James Agustus Hicky was the editor of the Bengal Gazette. The first English-language newspaper published in the Indian subcontinent was Hicky's Bengal Gazette. Irishman James Augustus Hicky established it in Calcutta, the then-capital of British India, in 1779. The journal was published in Calcutta, which served as the capital of colonial India. In India, James Augustus Hicky is regarded as the founding figure of journalism.
Along with the Calcutta General Advertiser, he founded India's first newspaper, the Bengal Gazette, in 1780. The newspaper was only published for two years before the British government confiscated it in 1782 due to its vehement criticism of the Raj. As per the young American scholar Andrew Otis, a four-page weekly newspaper costing one rupee was available.
