Detailed Solution

Napoleon Bonaparte became the emperor of France in 1804. He was able to come to power due to the repressive policies of Maximilian Robespierre. Since Robespierre pursued his policies so ruthlessly that even his supporters began to demand the moderation of the rule. Because of his reign of terror, he was finally convicted by a court in 1794. Then he was sent to jail and guillotine. After this, a vacuum was created in France, which was filled later by Napoleon Bonaparte. The vacuum occurred due to the political instability of the Directory, which consisted of a five-member executive body. It was created to reduce the concentration of power in France.
