Haider Ali was the father of Tipu Sultan. He was the Mysore king. He was in charge of Mysore from 1761 to 1782. A strong leader was Haidar Ali. Mysore became more powerful under his leadership. Tipu Sultan, who ruled from 1782 until 1799, was also a strong leader. The British were incensed. The British viewed Haidar Ali and Tipu Sultan as ambitious, lofty, and dangerous kings. The British were quite enraged. The British saw them as enemies who needed to be subdued and destroyed. From 1767 through 1799, four wars were fought with Mysore. In 1793, Haidar Ali and Tipu Sultan defeated the company forces. The company prevailed in the decisive battle of Seringapatam.
