The first Governor-General of British India was Warren Hastings.  He was born on December 6, 1732. He was a British colonial administrator. He was also the first Governor of the Presidency of Fort William and the head of the Supreme Council of Bengal. From 1772 to 1785, he was the first Governor-General of Bengal. He was instrumental in establishing the British Empire in India. The rule of the Governor-General in British India began with Warren Hastings.
