The Golgi apparatus is a critical organelle in eukaryotic cells responsible for modifying, sorting, and packaging proteins for secretion and transportation of lipids, as well as the formation of lysosomes. It was first observed by Italian scientist Camillo Golgi in 1898, but it was actually first seen by Italian histologist Camillo Golgi in 1867, who later gave it its name.
