Detailed Solution

The last Mughal emperor was Bahadur Shah Zafar. He was an aged and powerless man in the 1800s. When East India Company faced a massive revolt at Meerut in 1857, these rebels marched to Delhi and proclaimed the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar as their leader. They wanted the Mughal reign back. But, the British recaptured Delhi from the rebels. Bahadur Shah Zafar was tried and sentenced to life imprisonment. He and his wife were sent to a jail in Rangoon.
