Detailed Solution

The Sindhia was the Maratha chief of Gwalior.
The Sindhia family briefly controlled northern Indian politics in the 18th century. Ranoji Sindhia established the dynasty after the Peshwa appointed him ruler of the Malwa province in 1726. Though Ujjain was his capital until he died in 1750, the Sindhia capital was not relocated to the Gwalior rock stronghold until much later. With his creation of a north Indian empire that was essentially independent of the Peshwa, Sindhia Mahadaji was arguably the greatest of Ranoji's successors. He was acknowledged as the legitimate king of northwest India after he struggled with the British East India Company. Under Mahadji Sindhia, Gwalior became a leading power dominating the kingdom's affairs.
