Giuseppe Garibaldi was the most celebrated Italian freedom fighter who also participated in a Republican uprising in Piedmont in 1834. Giuseppe Garibaldi was an Italian revolutionary. He became a member of the 'Young Italy' movement, founded by Guiseppe Mazzini in 1833 and participated in a Republican rebellion in Piedmont in 1834. This uprising was, however, suppressed. It led to Giuseppe Garibaldi going to exile in South America. However, he came back determined to make amends and reach his goal. On his return, Garibaldi led the legendary Thousand Expedition to South Italy in 1860. He also led an army of volunteers to Rome in 1867 to face the final impediment to Italy's union and was eventually successful.
