Detailed Solution

Bahadur Shah Zafar was the Mughal Emperor during the  Revolt of 1857. The Revolt started in Meerut, and on May 11, the revolutionary soldiers arrived in Delhi, the Mughal Emperor's capital. After taking the city, they crowned Bahadur Shah Zafar, the Mughal Emperor, as the ruler of Hindustan. The old emperor reluctantly accepted this position. He sent letters to all of the chiefs and leaders in the nation urging them to organise an alliance of Indian states to oppose the British. This one action of Bahadur Shah had significant ramifications.
