Dr Rajendra Prasad was elected as the permanent chairman of the Constituent Assembly of Independent India, he also went on to become the first president of independent India. Dr Rajendra Prasad was a member of the constituent assembly from Bihar. He began participating in the Indian National Congress in 1911 and was three times elected as its President (1934, 1939 and 1948). Under the temporary leadership of Dr Sachchidananda Sinha, Prasad was unanimously chosen to serve as the Constituent Assembly's permanent chairman on December 11, 1946.
