Detailed Solution

The viceroy of India at the time of partition was Lord Curzon. Lord Curzon divided Bengal into two halves in 1905. They said that Bengal was partitioned for administrative convenience.  They partitioned Bengal for the interest of British officials and businessmen. Their main motive for this partition was to influence Bengali politicians and to split the people in Bengal. Bengal was a big province in British India that included Bihar and parts of Orissa at that time. They not only removed the non-Bangali area from the province but also the Bengali areas. Bengal was separated into East Bengal and was merged into Assam. The Nationalists in India opposed this movement. There was a spread of mass protests. The struggle led during the time by people came to be known as the swadeshi movement.
