Peasants were affected by the Civil Disobedience Movement because of the fact that the underprivileged peasantry was concerned with more than merely reducing the need for money. They joined the Civil Disobedience Movement in 1930–1934. The land was rented by many. Due to the depression and declining cash incomes, they could not pay their rent. They demanded that the landlord receive their outstanding rent. Congress was unable to fully endorse the initiative because they feared that wealthy peasants and landlords would object. In most regions, it was unwilling to back the no-rent movement. As a result, they joined several radical movements that were frequently led by Socialists and Communists.
