Detailed Solution

Iqtas were land grants that created revenue for military commanders. Iqta was relevant in the regions of Persia and the Middle East and Iqta was already a practice. It got implemented in India by Iltutmish. This system was mainly approached for collecting land revenues. Muqtis or Iqtedars used to do this collection. Their function was mainly to collect the taxes and the liability of subjects was not on them in any way. The Iqta System divided the empire’s land into different large and small parts called ‘Iqta’. These iqtas were given to the king’s soldiers, officers and nobles. Initially, iqtas were dependent on the salary as income. Although as the sultanate progressed further, it became a hereditary right.
