The Muslim reformers were Jadidists within the Russian empire, who sought to modernise Islam and make it the dominant religion in the Russian Empire. During the 1905 Revolution, they backed Russian liberals who fought the Tsar's tyranny and called for a constitution. They placed a high value on education and prioritised women's social advancement. The Jadidists were aware that the Muslims in the Russian Empire were straying away from Islam. So, they wanted to modernise the religion to win them back.
