Detailed Solution

Kulaks were peasants.
Towards the end of the Russian Empire, peasants who owned more than 8 acres of land were referred to as "kulaks," also written as "kurkul" or "golchomag." In the past of Russia and the Soviet Union, a kulak (Russian for "fist") was a wealthy or successful peasant who often possessed a substantial farm, a lot of cattle and horses, and the resources to hire labour and lease property. In his campaign, Stalin cited the "risk" that "rich peasants," often known as "kulaks," posed to the survival of the Soviet system. In addition, Stalin claimed that the wilful reluctance of the kulaks to turn over their grain to the government was suffocating the Soviet dictatorship.
