Detailed Solution

British and Dutch were the colonial powers in Java, Indonesia.
Java, an island of Indonesia, was colonised by the Dutch, and their rule lasted for over three centuries. The Dutch had established themselves in Java as early as 1596, under the Dutch East Company, with their headquarters at Batavia (present-day Jakarta). Later on, it came under the rule of the Britishers, and Stamford Raffles was appointed the Lieutenant Governor of Java. He ended Dutch administrative methods and took control of its possessions. Then, parallel to the Napoleonic wars, the British conquered Java from the Dutch East Company in 1811.
