Who were the first inhabitants of America?

The Indigenous peoples of the Americas were the people who lived in the Americas before European settlers arrived in the 15th century. The American Anthropological Association coined the phrase "American Indian" in 1902. It was rejected outright by some of the Association's most powerful members, and while it was approved by many, it was never universally accepted.
