Allied powers won the Second World War.
Ultimately, the Allies triumphed over the Axis forces. German Fuhrer Adolf Hitler, Italian Tsar Benito Mussolini, and Japanese Shogun Hirohito were the leaders of the Axis camp. Territorial expansion at the expense of its neighbours and securing the defence of their zones of influence against the spread of communism were the driving forces behind the Axis Powers. During the first year (1939–1942) of World War 2, the Axis powers ruled most of South-East Asia, Western & Central Europe, and a sizable portion of the continent. But on September 8, 1943, Germany would follow Italy as the first to submit. Finally, on May 7, 1945, the enemy was captured. Atomic bombs struck the twin cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and on September 2, 1945, Imperial Japan formally submitted to the Allies.
