Detailed Solution

John Ovington wrote “A Voyage to Surat” in the Year 1689.
At the same time as King James, an English monk named John Ovington travelled to exile. The East India Company engaged Ovington as a priest, and he boarded the Benjamin for India. Before settling in Surat, where he would spend the next two and a half years, Ovington disembarked in Bombay for a short period of time. The chapter "The City of Surat and Its Inhabitants" from John Ovington's A Voyage to Surat in the Year 1689 offers one account of these encounters. In his writing, he claimed that the port of Surat was home to 100 ships from various nations.
