Stripurushtulna was written by Tarabai Shinde. Indian women began to enter universities by the 1880s. Women started getting jobs. Some of them become doctors and some become teachers. Many women started to write and publish their critical views about the life of women in Indian society. It was during the time Tarabai Shinde (a woman educated at home at Poona) published a book named Stripurushtulna. It was a Comparison between Women and Men. It mainly points out the social differences that are faced by women. In Stripurushtulna, Tarabai Shinde wrote about the discrimination faced by a widowed woman. After the death of the husband of a woman, she was not allowed to go to other auspicious occasions like weddings and receptions. Tarabai Shinde asks in her book why this is to be faced by the widows.
