Detailed Solution

John Locke wrote the 'Two Treatises of Government'. The First Treatise aimed to discredit the divine right of kings, which meant that God legitimised the kings to rule over the masses as absolute monarchs. Locke refutes this theory in his work using both Biblical and historical evidence. In the Second Treatise, he states that instead of a divine bloodline, the citizens create a government by giving their consent to be governed, which is called by Locke a legitimate government. Books like these helped to spread progressive or revolutionary ideas in France and other parts of Europe in the 18th century.
