Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote ‘Vande Mataram’ as a hymn to the motherland.
Vande Mataram is a Bengali literary composition written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in the 1870s. The hymn was enclosed within the 1881 book ‘Anandamath’ by BC Chattopadhyayand was composed by Rabindranath Tagore. It became a preferred hymn for political and social movements in 1905. ‘Vande Mataram’ or ‘Mother, I bow to you’ could be a Sanskritised literary composition written in Bengali by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee within the decade. Rabindranath Tagore initially sang the literary piece at the 1896 session of the Indian National Congress.
