Ajatasatru sends his minister to Buddha.
Ajatasatru wanted to attack the Vajjis, so he sent his minister Vassakara to the Buddha to get his advice. Digha Nikaya is a famous Buddhist book containing some speeches of the Buddha, written about 2300 years ago, which accounts for this conversation. The Buddha asked if the Vajjis met regularly in full assemblies. When he knew they did, he replied that the Vajjis would continue to prosper if they held full and frequent public assemblies, met and acted together, followed established rules, respected, supported, and listened to elders. Also, if they would not hold women by force or capture, towns and villages maintained Chaityas (local shrines), and the state allowed and respected wise saints who followed different beliefs.
