Detailed Solution

Gandhiji urges women to come up and take part in the civil disobedience movement. The Civil Disobedience Movement was characterised by widespread female participation. Thousands of ladies came out of their houses during the Salt March to hear Gandhi's lectures. Women marched in protest; Sarojini Naidu took command in Gujarat and demanded independence, manufacturing salt and picketing foreign fabric and liquor establishments. Many were imprisoned. While women from upper caste families participated in metropolitan regions, they came from affluent peasant homes in rural areas. However, this did not result in any significant changes in the status of women. For a long time, Congress hesitated to allow women to take leadership positions inside the organisation.
