Detailed Solution

The British appointed Dietrich Brandis as the first Inspector General of Forests of India. Initially, Brandis was drawn to botany because of his intellectual background. However, when the boat was transported, it overturned, and the herbarium and botanical library sent from Calcutta to Rangoon were lost. He turned away from studying botany and toward forestry due to this loss. In addition to calculating the volume of teak, identifying the pace of growth and harvest, and creating measures to safeguard forests from pests and fire, Brandis' work included these tasks. He also imposed restrictions on removing land and purchasing timber.
