Detailed Solution

The British government appointed Gomasthas to supervise weavers, collect supplies and examine the quality of cloth. During the 1760s Britain tried to conquer places in India through military acquisition, like in the Battle of Plassey in 1757 and the Battle of Buxar in 1764. Even though they concentrated only on political consolidation, the Indian textiles and fabrics were untouched by the intervention of the Britishers. But only after the British truly established political consolidation in India, did they eventually intervene in the monopoly over trade in India. During this time they appointed Gomasthas.
