Gomasthas was assigned to supervise the weavers, collecting supplies and inspecting the quality of the cloth. The East India Company of textiles recruited paid labour workers who were in charge of supervising weavers, collecting supplies, and inspecting the quality of cloth; they were known as "GOMASTHAS." They were tasked with inspecting the fabric and gathering supplies. They could punish the weavers if they were late, and the weavers were not authorised to sell to anybody other than the East India Company.
