Tipu Sultan's sword became popular. Tipu Sultan ruled Mysore till 1799. Tipu fought four wars with the British troops and died fighting with a sword in his hand. His legendary swords are present in the valuable collections section in museums in England. Tipu Sultan's sword was special. It had an incredible stud and sharp edge that could easily rip through metal armours. This quality came from exceptional high-carbon steel called Wootz, produced all over south India. Wootz steel produced an extremely sharp edge with a flowing water pattern in swords.
