Detailed Solution

James Watt improved the steam engine produced by Thomas Newcomen. The engine's mechanism involved condensing the steam. For the first time in an actual system, steam was used to power the machinery. Watt spent years refining the design, changing nearly every component, including the condenser. Watt experimented with a wide range of piston sealing methods, considerably reducing power loss and leakage during the power stroke. Due to all of these advancements, producing the same amount of energy using 50% less coal and a more reliable design is now possible.
