Detailed Solution

Fish and rice are important in Bengal because of their easy availability, one Purana allowed brahmins of Bengal to eat fish and it is their staple food. A Bengali Sanskrit text from the thirteenth century known as the Brihad Dharma Purana authorised the consumption of several kinds of fish. Traditional culinary preferences are mostly influenced by what is readily available nearby. Rice and fish are in great supply in Bengal, a riverine plain. Understandably, even the poorest Bengalis' meals include a lot of these two items. Fish are frequently mentioned in Bengali literature since fishing has always been a common activity. In addition, clay plaques depicting scenes of fish being dressed and brought to markets in baskets can be found on the walls of Buddhist viharas and temples. Prior to the prominence of fish in the local cuisine, Brahmanical authorities in Bengal decided to relax their ban on nonvegetarian food consumption.
